Textile printing has been around for a long time. There are other examples from China 220 years ago. It became popular in Europe around the 12th century and slowly began to gain popularity. Of course, traditional printing methods were much slower and harder than what we can do today!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Printing on demand is actually a relatively new thing. In the 1966 edition of Galaxy Science Fiction, the print-on-demand book was described as a magical future invention we could only dream of. But before long, it was here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before long, we mean within the same decade. It got a big boost in the 1960s when the artist and inventor Michael Vasilantone came up with a new method of screen printing that was much faster. The increase in speed means it is easier to create unique designs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the 1980s, printers were available to the public, and printing on demand took off. It started with paper and then evolved to be able to print on fabric as well — what we call direct ready-to-wear (DTG) printing. The first true DTG printer was called the Revolution and it came out in the 90s. Just 10 years later, we’re starting to see stiff competition from many brands trying to get a piece of the DTG print market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the biggest trends in the textile market today is personalization. Which means we can expect to see more disposable prints on T-shirts and other clothing in the near future!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why should I consider printing on demand?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is more cost effective for one-off orders. Especially if you’re just starting your own business, print on demand is very useful because you don’t have to print anything until you’ve made the sale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
